Owning an above ground pool sounds so easy. Actually, it’s a bit complicated. It’s not as easy as if you can just put up a pool in your back yard, stick a hose in it, turn on a spigot and start swimming a few days later. Pools are more than an oversized water bowl.
Installing an above ground pool is a simple process, but that does not make it easy. Generally, it will take several hours or even several days to set up an above ground pool. The most important thing to keep in mind while installing any pool is to build a firm foundation. If the pool sits on patchy ground, then it can collapse and cause problems for a long time.
Take the permit from the municipalities to fencing and positioning of swimming pools.
Each area is different, so check with your building and zoning office. Only after having permission start to install your pool because it can be costly if you are not permitted swimming pool installation.
Check the underground utilities and septic tanks.
If you have any underground utilities, call the utility company and have it mark where they are. Don’t install your pool over your septic tank if you have one.
Check the weather report and make sure you have a few dry days coming to install your pool.
It can get pretty messy while digging up the sod and leveling the ground if it’s raining.
1. Choose a spot to install the pool.
2. Level the ground, remove rocks, twigs, roots and any other objects from the pool area.
3. Dig the ground away from the higher part of the yard until it matches the height of the lowest spot.
4. Install patio stones or blocks to support the pool frame.
5. Place a 2-inch layer of sand across the pool area, rake level and tamp down firmly.
6. Install the pool walls, unrolled into the track and screwed together at the seam. (more…)

It is important that you are aware how tough it can be to install a wooden floor especially if you are considering taking on this job yourself. On the other hand though, it will also be something that will be the source of a lot of pride if you get it right. Wood is a material that just looks attractive as a floor covering and is also durable – it should last a lifetime. Although you could in theory have wooden floors all over your home, it is not really a good idea to put it in a bathroom or kitchen because these areas are prone to excessive water which could cause the floor to either lift or rot.
Tips For Installing Wooden Floors
The following tips should help to make it a bit easier when it comes to installing wooden floors yourself.
- When you are ordering your wood you should make a point of ordering an extra fifteen percent . The reason for this is that you are likely to make mistakes and there might also be a few parts of the wood that you don’t want to use.
- Before you actually start work you should make sure that your wood has been left sitting in the room where it is to be laid for a few days. Because wood tends to expand and contract you need to allow it to acclimatise to the room where it will be laid.
- Whenever you lay a wooden floor, the boards should be laid in a perpendicular direction to the floor joints.
- It is a good move to check for squeaks in the floor joints before you start installing the boards. If you do find areas where there are squeaks then you should use a long drywall screw to reinforce the area.
- Moisture protection is important under a wooden floor so make sure that you lay this before the wooden panels. Vapour barrier paper can work well for this purpose.
- The longest wall is probably the best place to begin the job. The first two rows should be nailed down by hand. You should also drill pilot holes for your finishing nails.
- It is important that the panel joints are not close to the panel joints in the next row – aim to leave a six inch gap.
- In order to ensure that you are leaving the gaps between the joints for each row you should lay out a few panels at a time.
- You can use a small piece of scrap wood for levelling out each row. You can use this piece of scrap wood to make sure that each piece of wood fits tighter against the other by placing the wood at the side of a wood panel and tapping gently with a hammer.
- When you have started your project and have begun to see it take shape, you can then use a floor nailer which will make the job much easier. (more…)

There are 3 main methods of fixing down a real hardwood floor; glue-down, secret nailing or floating. Which is the best?
Floating wooden floors
A floating floor is where the boards are lightly glued together with PVA wood glue along the tongue joint and laid onto a foam matting or underlay over the existing floor. They are called ‘floating’ floors because of their tendency to move if there are any peaks or hollows in the floor underneath, the sub-floor. There is no physical adhesion between the new wood floor and the old floor and, as a result, some floating floors may flex, squeak or sound ‘hollow’ when walked on, especially if the sub-floor has not been prepared correctly. This is a cost effective way of laying a wooden floor but the end result is often disappointing due to the movement. You can only float engineered wood flooring as solid boards have a tendency to twist if laid in this way.
Nailed wooden floors
Traditionally, secret nailing through the tongue of the board was the preferred fixing method when laying a wooden floor. The installer uses either a manual or a pneumatic nail gun and fires special wood fixing nails or cleats through the tongue, which is then hidden when the corresponding groove abuts the board. Solid or engineered wood flooring boards can be laid to timber battens laid on the floor or direct to timber floor joists. In some cases the timber joists can be stuffed with insulation and overlaid with membrane to reduce cold spots in older houses. Alternatively, nailed floors can be used on concrete sub-floors by fitting a 16-18mm layer of plywood or OSB to the concrete first. The resulting nailed floor will feel solid and substantial during use. That said, nailed installation is a specialist skill and should is not recommended for the amateur DIY’er!
Glued down wooden floors
Glued down installation is probably the most common wood floor fixing method used these days. Here the new floor is laid using a full coverage flexible wood adhesive to the sub-floor; which could either be a concrete screed, existing floor boards or a plywood/OSB board. Modern silane adhesives are applied to the sub-floor using a trowel, a little like tile cement, and the boards are placed directly on top. These new wood adhesives are very strong, odour free, water based and have a good ‘open’ time allowing ample time to complete large areas of flooring using an open tub. A glued down wood floor will feel as solid underfoot as a nailed floor and, because the glue is flexible, natural seasonal expansion and contraction can occur without stressing the floor.

Older GE dryer models have a small drum bearing inspection plate in the center of the back of the dryer. This drum bearing inspection plate provides access to the dryer’s circlip (also known as an e-ring). This clip holds the rear drum shaft in place. Newer models do not have this circlip or the drum bearing inspection plate.
If yours is an older GE model with an inspection plate, remove the plate now. It will be held in place with a single screw. Removing the inspection plate will allow you access to the dryer’s rear drum bearing.
Now remove the front panel of the dryer. There are a couple of different ways this is accomplished. Whichever method you use is dependent upon your model. Some older models have two spring catch clips under the cabinet top, one on the left side, and one on the right side of the front. Use a putty knife, or some other flat and thin object to wedge in under the cabinet top. Release both spring catches and lift the cabinet top off the dryer. In some newer models, there will be screws joining the cabinet front panel to the cabinet top. You will have to open the door in order to find these screws. Once they are found, remove them and then slide the cabinet top forward and lift it off the unit.
Next, there are two screws located in the bottom of the front panel, one in each corner. Loosen these, but do not remove them just yet. Locate and remove the two screws at the top inside of the dryer’s front panel. Again, there is one screw in each corner. Proceed to remove the other two screws you have just loosened. Disconnect the door switch wires and then lift the front panel off your dryer.

Because wooden decor varies in finish, style and texture, and due to its well-known beauty and class, it’s an ideal choice for any home or office. It can be refinished to match a selected style, and it is sturdy and simple to worry for, making it a wise investment.
The first benefit that you will get with solid wood is that it is more attractive than the furniture that is made from manufactured wood. Manufactured furniture often has a cheaper look and feel, with a focus on short-term utility over long-term quality and purpose. There nothing romantic about low-grade furniture that has been slapped together while making its way down an assembly line. With solid wood furniture you can feel the quality as soon as you touch it, and if you close your eyes while running your hand over it you can practically see a craftsman carefully crafting each piece.
Another important aspect that you should remember about solid wood furniture is that it will last for ages. Hardwood furniture is the furniture that you buy when you want to have something that will one day be a treasured antique for your family and loved ones. The thing to remember is that even though solid wood does show wear, it can be sanded and refinished. Unlike manufactured wood, which is a very here today, gone tomorrow, solid wood can be repaired and lovingly restored.
Oil may be good for furniture but regularly using polish is not. Furniture polish leaves a dull coating on wood. Over time this will make the wood look more faded. It will just look older and worn out. Wood furniture can be expensive, especially rarer woods like mahogany, cherry, teak. Do not let thousands of dollars go to waste by using polishes when all they need is a bit of oil. Old English and other oils are great but polishes are better left for bowling alleys.
Both hardwood and softwood can be carved into beautiful looking furniture. Softwood is easier to work with, so it’s more common to find patterns on the surface area of the furniture. In general, hardwoods are more difficult to work with. But certain types of hardwood are still versatile enough to be transformed into exquisite art pieces under skillful hands. Such items are rare, and can be costly at times. Having a wide range of designs mean that you can easily find a look that will fit in well with your existing interior decor.
You are looking for great gifts to give around the holidays. Do you have a Christmas list that would give Santa’s a run for his money? If so, you may wish to buy wholesale in order to defray some of the costs that the holidays bring along with them. In conjunction with your decision to do so, you will also earn a reputation for giving high quality stuff instead of boring old Christmas sweaters and packages of socks!
Rubberwood was discovered during the 16th century in Brazil however tree farms were started in Thailand and China. The sap from the tree has been used for many things from tires to condoms. Rubberwood features a nice grain and is widely used in to the furniture from Vietnam, Thailand and China. This type of wood is farmed, therefore is renewable and is durable. Its quality is comparable to oak as it is stronger than some hardwoods.
Certain rooms need to have an uplifting mood. For you, that is going to depend on where you go for that feeling. For example, kitchens are an excellent choice for lighter colors especially if you spend a lot of time in there.
Just remember that choosing your wooden furniture that it can really change the look of a room and can add the tone or mood that you’re looking for!

When creating a home office, decorating ideas can be hard to come by because this is not a traditional room in the house. More and more often, however, a home office is needed to keep work organized and get it done efficiently.
There are some practical and simple home office decorating ideas that will make your home-based work space comfortable, efficient and attractive as well. It is important to remember that a home office is different from a commercial office; it has to fit into the decor of the rest of the house. Sometimes it has to fit into the décor of a specific room.
Moving place is very important while buying furniture for any room, be it the office or the home or the living room or the dining room. If there is no moving space within the room, one might start feeling trapped in the room and would need to discard the furniture earlier than would be feasible. It would be a good idea to take the measurements of the room and then decide which furniture would fit well in the room.
The use of color is essential in the functionality of your home office, as it will help to create a particular “mood” as you enter the space. Will you be seeing clients in your home office? Do you want your home office to be warm and inviting? Do you want your home office to blend in with the rest of your home’s décor? Do you want your office to be stimulating and conducive to creativity or calm and relaxing?
Realistically review the list of furniture you would like to have in your office. Be sure that things will not be squeezed in to fit. It all must fit without appearing to be cluttered. An office cluttered with furnishings, even if you think each item is essential, will not be as productive as it could otherwise be.
When you have a more or less clear idea of what furnishings you want, go and look for them. A good idea is to explore the sales, close-outs and specials, because expenses can quickly get out of hand. Watch for “going out of business” sales, even if the business is totally unrelated to yours. All industries use office desks, chairs and shelves, and pieces that aren’t exactly what you had in mind could be close enough with a little imagination.
You must look around to see if there is enough space for the storage of paper, files, pens, pencils, and anything else that will be required near your workspace. So according to your work needs, think about the space you need and plan according to it.
The next thing which you should consider before selecting home office furniture is the desk space. If you have to write a lot then you have to make it a point that you have enough space for writing and storing notes or other needed stuffs. You will also need space for placing your laptop or computer on the desk space.
If you like the idea of coordinating your home furniture, then you might consider matching your home office furniture to the rest of your furniture in the house as well. If you have a modern apartment with stylish fixtures, then you might want to furnish your home office that way as well. I’m sure you won’t have a lack of ideas. Besides the Internet, you can even browse through magazines to get the inspiration that you need.
For the more traditional buyer, wood furnishings in oak, mahogany, or cherry will fill the bill. For those preferring a contemporary look, acrylic and leather are hot right now. You can DIY (design your self) with mix and match pieces that complement your home’s existing decor. Just use your own sense of style, and pay attention to the color scheme of your room. Also, take into account what activities you will be performing on a daily basis, and choose furniture that will help you work more efficiently.

Energy costs are soaring, so there has never been a better time to decide to live off the grid. But is it really possible? If you decide to try to power your home without any help from the utility companies, you currently have two main options. One is using a wind turbine to generate electricity from the wind. The other is solar energy, this involves using a solar panel to convert the sunlight directly into electrical energy. In this article I hope to show 5 reasons why solar energy is a viable way to generate energy for your home.
1. Initial cost will pay for itself:
The cost of enough solar panels to power a home, coupled with installation costs, will be high. Don’t let this put you off, as the system will pay for itself many times over in it’s lifetime in free energy. You can also reduce this cost by doing some or all of the work yourself. Work from doing your own installation, right down to fabricating our own solar panels. The more you do the cheaper it will be, and the faster it will pay for itself.
2. It is free energy:
After the cost has been payed back all the energy your solar plant makes for you is effectively free.
3. It can work even when there is no sun:
It is a common misconception that there has to be bright direct sunlight to generate power. This is not true, a panel will create energy even on a cloudy day. If you live in an area that has lower sunlight levels you will just need more panels. You can even use the energy at night, as during the day you will store surplus energy in a storage battery bank.
4. You may get help with the cost:
Many governments are actively encouraging home owners to use solar energy. Depending on where you live there may be help available to cover part of the costs of your solar power plant. This help is in the form of direct grants or sometimes tax rebates. Check locally for schemes and their terms before you proceed.
5. You reduce your emissions to zero:
The use of solar panel produced energy creates zero carbon emissions. So you can be happy with the knowledge you are doing your bit to save the planet.
I hope I have convinced you that solar energy is a viable way to power your home. With the ever rising costs of traditionally generated energy, and the undeniable fact that we will have to come up with renewable energy sources. There has never been a better time to think about a home solar energy project.

Whatever goal you have, it’s quite essential to have a set of guidelines to get you through. Being aware of what to do and what not to do will help you reach your goal, saving you more time. Listed here are the 3 of the most important reminders on doing your task. If you comply with these reminders, it is more likely that your results come out better.
When letting go of clutter, it will be essential that you do things correctly. If you don’t, the effects might end up being disastrous. You might wind up with a cluttered house, or possibly being buried deep in clutter. Conform to these guidelines and you’ll gain more than what you expected.
First. Acknowledge the truth that you have loads of stuff.
This could be in your house, gathering cobwebs in the corner, leaving your room very crowded.
It is important to learn to accept that fact that there are things you own that you do not really need and these items are just taking up space in your home or room. Doing so leads you one step ahead to avoid unwanted things scattered in your house. Failing to achieve this may well keep you from letting go of clutter. So make sure you adhere to this.
Second. Segregate the things that are necessary and the things that aren’t.
It’s as important to recognize the fact that you own things that you find useless, and these things just filled your space corner to corner. The main idea of decluttering is to segregate the things that are essential from those of with very little use or importance. I’ll make it clear once more, neglecting this will drive you far from your goal. This could totally renew your house by clearing up the clutter, if you’re one of the people who has problem with organizing, you might be closer to solving it.
And Third. Make it a habit to keep your things in the right place.
Finally, keeping the clutter away is a major commitment, ensuring habitual proper storage is the key to success. This can even give you extra space in you house. Extra compartments for something else worthy of it. This is very essential in keeping your home organized. If you do not, you may end up with a lot more clutter in your house — and I presume we are able to agree that this will not be the best thing!
As I said from the outset, when it comes to letting go of clutter, you want to ensure you don’t make errors that will wind up with a cluttered house, and even being buried deep in clutter. What you would like is get rid of things that you do not actually need and free up some space in your house, and you can achieve that by following the strategies given.

Have you noticed that many furniture stores seem to have sales throughout the year? You’ll see them advertising in magazines and on the television from January right through until December. So do these sale prices mean that we can pick up a bargain?
Many consumers clearly doubt the validity of some of these offers. Since they seem to be available almost permanently, is there any point in rushing to make a purchase at a particular time of the year?
If you’re looking to spruce up your living room then you may have considered buying a new sofa. Looking at the prices of these items online, it soon becomes clear that sale prices are pretty easy to find at any time of the year. This suggests that your best option is to buy furniture when you need it, rather than when you think that the best deals are available.
There’s another aspect to some of these deals that many people see as being something of a worry. It’s been noted that many furniture retailers appear to have encountered financial difficulties over the years. Do we really want to hand over our cash to a shop or store that may not be there tomorrow.
This problem has been heightened by the popularity of online shopping. When we’re shopping using the internet, we may frequently encounter retailers who we have not previously heard of. Should we avoid buying a sofa from a company that we have no knowledge of?
It would certainly be wise to do some research in such instances. You might try looking at some objective online reviews to see what other consumers have to say about a particular retailer. Find out if they sound like they are reputable.
If you have any doubt then you can always stick to the big brand names. Many of these have been established for a long time and have been able to build up a positive reputation as a result.
When it comes to sofas, you can consider the likes of Marks & Spencer, Littlewoods, John Lewis and Argos here in the UK. They are clearly established stores. In many cases that means that you’ll know what you’ll be getting.
Many online sofa deals may not be quite as good as they appear and certainly won’t represent value for money if you never even receive your new purchase.

Domestic cleaning and stain removal are everyday challenges of life. There are tricks to cleaning using natural methods though, that you could try out using readily available stuffs at home. Let us look into some easy cleaning solution tips to some of the common home cleaning problems we encounter.
To clean windows and glasses, divide a newspaper in two, fold up one half in a small square and wet it in cold water mixed with a little vinegar. Rub the glass thoroughly with the wet half of the paper and dry it out with the other half. This works really well at removing stains from glasses and is perfect as a window cleaning solution. Make sure to not add more than 10 ml of vinegar to one litre of water.
The other challenge faced as part of regular home cleaning is the papered wall. It is not easy to get the dirt off by simply brushing the surface, and wet cleaning will spoil the paper too. There is a trick to cleaning the papered wall surface though. Here it is – cut out thick slices off a large loaf of bread which is two days old and dry them. Rub down the surface with a piece of the bread in long single strokes working in top to bottom direction, prior to which make sure that you blow the dust off the wall using a vaccum cleaner. You may also use dry corn meal in place of bread which can be applied using a cloth.
A large share of home cleaning effort is demanded by one of the most expensive and indispensable assets of your home, which is the marble floor. To clean marble surfaces, use only a soft sponge or chamois skin dampened in clean warm water without soap. Polish with dry chamois skin. Never use a cloth as it will likely scratch the polished surface.

Regular dough hooks are available, however, and can be used for regular dough that is easy to mix. They also come with a whisk and flat beater attachment.

4. Unplug appliances when not in use. Plugged appliances still consume electricity even when turned off.
5. Use a regular shaver instead of an electric shaver.
6. Use a gas oven instead of an electric oven.
